Vegan Products List (Available in Australia)

Hi everyone

Here is a list of all the items available in stores that happen to be vegan*. I encourage you to add to my list or inform me if something is wrong, so I may publish this as a PDF for distribution. If I have not mentioned where to buy these, then this implies they are available in most supermarkets.

*(This list may; 1) Include items which have been processed on equipment which also produces dairy/egg products 2) Include companies that are not vegan themselves (P&G, for example) 3) And, may contain palm oil. It is up to you where you draw the line. Take soy milk, for example. Vitasoy is owned by National Foods who also produce dairy products. However, I strongly believe in supporting any non vegan company's vegan product. By increasing demand for their vegan products, we are assisting in the mainstreaming of veganism. This list is not to discourage supporting the 100% vegan companies, but rather, this list is designed to simply make your life easier :-D)

great list, thanks. The x-treme sour straps contain palm oil though,

I thought strawberry flavoured Oreos had cochineal in them?

no no no Cole BBQ chips aren't vegan...we not long ago contacted the company and they told us they weren't vegan.... forget exactly why...something to do with the "flavours"

and the red premade jelly in the cold section has the big no no red colouring in it *scratches head* I swore it did

Hey guys - thanks for the comments!

Anon #1: Sorry, not single haha :)

Anon #2: Yes, however, as my disclaimer states: "*(This list may; 1) Include items which have been processed on equipment which also produces dairy/egg products 2) Include companies that are not vegan themselves (P&G, for example) 3) And, may contain palm oil. It is up to you where you draw the line. Take soy milk, for example. Vitasoy is owned by National Foods who also produce dairy products. So, it is totally up to you whether you are going to consume products containing palm oil. Maybe, in my PDF version I will mention which products contain it, to make things easier.

Anon #3: My sources tell me 'It is vegan' however, i'll put a TBC next to it until i read the labelling myself. Problem is, there seems to be no mention of these oreos online on the Nabisco website. Grr!

Anon #4: Thanks for letting me know regarding Coles BBQ, I'll remove it once I confirm with Coles :) TBC shall go next to it in the meantime.

With red coloring - my sources tell me it is not cochineal based but I'll double check the colouring number on the labelling.

Kolios fasting cheese is most definitely not vegan. They all contain sodium caseinate. Staff at delis don't know what that is so assume it is vegan. A few people I trust have asked to read the packet at the deli and sure enough it contains sodium caseinate.

Here is what Greek vegans have to say about their fasting cheeses.

Also, here is a thread from the wvd forum

Check out the comments on this blog http://bluerthanpink.blogspot.com/2008/05/kolios-nistisimo-is-vegan-you-might-be.html

Case closed, IMO.

Hey anonymous!

I called KOLIOS in Greece about the product in question. This was over a year ago.

I called again last Friday requesting they provide me updated product information. They said they'll be in contact soon.

When I called a year ago, they stated there are no animal products in the fasting cheese and confirmed this with the relevant departments.

HOWEVER; whether this has changed since then, I cannot confirm!

I'm onto it :)

Aeroplane jelly discontinued the 'quick set' variety. Do you know of any other brand that's vegan?

Amy said...

Hi Anon!

YES i heard the quickset is discontinued. Bugger!

You can buy several vegan jellies from kosher super markets. (Look online for your nearest kosher supermarket) or from vegan supermarkets such as Radical in Melbourne. Or www.crueltyfreeshop.com.au

Hi just wanted you all to know that I have just been to Big W Coles and Woolies and here are a few things I found
Big W frogs are not vegan and never have been. I just spoke to the company and they just didn't put gelatine on the ingredients list on the small packet but the new packets now have it included.
Coles Hot Cross buns are no longer vegan
Bakers Delight Hot Cross buns ARE vegan
Herbert Adams vegetable pastie is NOT vegan due to milk solids
Coles garlic bread 2 pack IS vegan
Hope this helps

Hi again just spoke to Coles and their BBQ chips are NOT vegan only suitable to vegetarians. Bummer.
I put a complaint in and if everyone calls them then maybe they will change the recipe.

Lyn

Thanks so much for the information.

How can the big w frogs not have had gelatine on the ingredients, that is absolutely bizarre!

Cheers
Amy

Hi Amy,

I greatly appreciate your time and effort in putting this list of daily needs for us esp for Australians.

I was referred this link by a friend that I met at the Vegan Expo 2011 in NSW and she got the link whilst shopping and from some stranger Vegan and I am also in NSW so its amazing how once you start it all kinda links up like facebook.

Although, there might be some differences in terms of procuring due to different states' supplies but i imagine woolies and coles would be more or less the same but a great start and list never the less and thanks for the future pdf in advance so more aussies into this path can just cut the hassle and time and get on with happy veganing thanks to you and your group of supporters and verfiers.

On behalf of the vegan community and animals on earth, my thank you.

will be checking back in for more goodies

over and out for now

Hi admin,
I read your blog, its really awesome,
Gold is one of the most precious metals extracted from mines. It is extracted in a solid form, proving to be a metal which is very easy to be manufactured later on. Thanks to the reputation it got in time and the endless ways in which it can be used, the precious metal became a kind of king of all metals, being regarded as a superlative extending its meaning upon other rare products as well.
